All children must be supervised during library visits and should not be left unattended. Children of any age may not be left at the library for childcare or babysitting purposes. The Library is committed to creating a child-safe environment that promotes learning and enjoyment. In the scope of their employment, Library staff and volunteers will promote children's wellbeing and protect them from harm. To this end, they will be available to listen or notice the effects of harm, offer parents/guardians support, ask for help and/or act if they suspect abuse, and stop child abuse before it starts by taking measures to protect children.

People in the library building who are not engaged in reading, studying or using library materials may be asked to modify their behaviour. If modifications are not made, they may be requested to leave the premises. If these requests have to be repeated, the police will be called.

Library users are expected to abide by the following:

  • Do not eat, drink, smoke or litter in the library.
  • Be respectful of others. Behaviour which disrupts or interferes with others who are reading, studying or using library facilities is not acceptable.
  • Take care of library collections, equipment and furniture, and report bad conduct or vandalism of any kind to staff immediately.
  • Observe library computer policies; e.g., using computers without permission, interfering with or altering settings, adding or removing files, downloading internet files to the hard drive, or accessing inappropriate internet sites which are not suitable for viewing by all ages in a public library are not acceptable.
  • Keep valuable items with you at all times. The library is not responsible for your personal belongings.
  • Keep yourself clean and tidy in the interests of your own health and safety, and in the interests of other library users sharing the facilities. Shirts and shoes should be worn.
